The 2000 Campbell's Guide to CRUISING TEXAS states that Ingleside Cove is the "most charming place on the Corpus Christi Bay by any measure." This is the home of the Bahia Marina, the friendliest marina on the Texas coast.
Originally built around 1960, the marina was the focal point of the then Ingleside on the Bay development. Devastated by the 1970 hurricane Celia, the marina was slowly rebuilt and was still generally in a state of disrepair when Keith and Carol Regnier bought it in 1979. The Regniers made the marina their home and have been rebuilding and remodeling ever since.

This year's Bahia Hee-Hee was our final one (Saturday,May 16th). Originally, the Hee-Hee was organized and planned with the help of our good friend and neighbor, attorney Douglas Tinker. He was the one who named the party. Doug passed away last November from cancer. Before he died, he gave the marina money for a party to celebrate his life. We decided we would dedicate the last Bahia Hee-Hee to Doug, and invite all his sailing friends. Two bands donated their services for the party, Buck Two 98 in the afternoon, and The Deadbeats in the evening. Not having to pay for a band freed up a lot of money to be used for T-Shirts, fishing poles for the kids, some really good food, memorial champagne flutes, and plenty of libations.
Now, this part of Texas has been suffering from a severe drought. But, wouldn't you know it, the day of the party a massive front was heading our way. We watched all those pretty colors on radar for most of the day, waiting for them to dissipate as usual. That didn't happen. About an hour before the front hit (just before we were to set out the food) we made the decision to move the party to an alternate location. We moved the party a half-mile down the road to the Ingleside Beach Club. As Doug had been a member of the Beach Club, the board was happy to accommodate us. We made the right call. The rain that fell certainly didn't break the drought, but it would have ruined the party.
Now was the party a success?

Our next party will be the annual Bahia Marina Bastille Day Party. This year it will take place on Saturday, July 11th. The featured band is Coastal and Western singer and song-writer LARRY JOE TAYLOR. The afternoon will include sunfish relays, and the annual Electric Boat Race at 5 PM. There will be a covered dish supper at 7pm, followed by the music of LARRY JOE TAYLOR at the Old Concrete Slab Theater. A contribution of $10.00 per person would be appreciated to help pay for the band. The Bastille will be stormed by the peasants at dark-thirty. Please bring your lawn chairs and a designated driver if you are not walking or sailing over. Call or e-mail Brian Lawson for race information: (361)563-8442 or sailnoff@hotmail.com
